Lower School

Kohler Academy’s Lower School program provides Pre-K through Eighth Grade students the opportunity to learn about the world around them through engaging lessons developed by New Jersey Department of Education certified teachers who have earned both grade level and special education certifications. Our educators use the Unique Learning System, an award-winning, one‑of‑a‑kind program designed specifically to give students with complex learning needs meaningful access to the general education curriculum.

Grade level lessons are prepared using the New Jersey Learning Standards and Dynamic Learning Map Standards in anticipation of student participation in the NJ alternate assessment.

Kohler Academy Lower School students are encouraged daily to develop the skills that will further their independence and allow them to better interact with the world around them. Independent Daily Living Skills are a focus of our teachers and therapists both in the classroom and in our Life Skills Room, where students can practice job skills, shopping skills and daily living skills in our apartment simulation. Through hands-on explorations, the access and availability of a multitude of assistive technologies and through the expertise and support of our Occupational, Physical and Speech therapists, the support Kohler Academy students receive gives them the advantage that they so richly deserve.
